Tip 6: Concentration — As we have discussed in our earlier article, if you have followed each step, the next step would be to enhance your concentration. As you gradually progress deeper into the chapter, you need to work up your concentration for a deeper understanding and learning of the concept. Therefore, you have to build up your concentration. The most efficient way of doing this is, the moment you start to feel distracted, take 5–10 minutes of break and meditate, close your eyes and think of nothing else, just try to concentrate on your breathing, without thinking of anything else. Or you can also count the numbers from 100 downwards in descending order. Therefore, now with your concentration exercise, you will feel much more focused on your approach. Initially, this exercise might seem a bit uncomfortable, but if you practice it at the other time of the day when you are relaxing, etc, you will gradually get things under control and you will find that this exercise is the best way to take a break during your study.
Tip 7: Focus — As you gradually work up your concentration level, your hold on your mental focus will also gradually increase. Then, you can move ahead and calmly read and go through each concept of the chapter. As your focus increases, you will find that it is taking really less time to completely read the whole chapter, and as you were focused, while reading also you must have gained and retained quite a lot from just by reading. Now that you have time lead from your schedule, you can give another reading marking out the points which you need to work on. Then, start afresh and go through the major points which you have marked out. And once you are done, and have learned the chapter, eventually move on to the questions and start by answering them, look up in the book only when it is very necessary. Therefore, you see following these simple steps you will not only be able to learn the new chapter but have memorized it, along with that you have even solved the questions related to the chapter. This way in a single sitting you have studied, learned and memorized a whole chapter.
Tip 8: Breaking up — Studying and learning a complete chapter at a single go might seem a major task to accomplish. Therefore, breaking up the major definitions or explanations into points will surely help you to achieve the seemingly unachievable. This should be done in the very initial stage when you are reading the chapter for the first time. So, while you are reading start highlighting our taking notes making points so that it is easier to learn and memorize and remember. And gradually with practice, you can do it mentally, for which you do not even have to take notes. So, start reading, marking, making point-wise notes, and then once you are complete reading the chapter return and relate it to the questions. With this technique and practicing this technique, you will find answering the questions has also become easy as you will find the relevant answers in the notes itself which you have made while reading.
Tip 9: Asking Questions — It is not just the questions at the end of the chapter, you can have numerous questions related to the chapter, or points that you think might be asked as questions. Therefore, after answering the questions given at the end of the chapter, start asking other relevant questions that come to your mind. Or, if you think it is taking some time, then straight away jump on the Test Paper, where you will find other questions chapter-wise, and surely you will come across other relevant questions from the chapter also. So, you see, how much more way ahead you are, in a single sitting; You have not only learned a new chapter, but you have memorized the whole chapter, solved the questions from the book itself, as well as you have even solved the questions from the Test Paper. So, learning and revision are all done in one go. So, don’t you think this technique will really help you to save time and energy?
Tip 10: Revision — If you have mastered the earlier, steps gradually, then, you have done the revision process effectively also. But if we are talking about the revision before the exams, that is the pre-exam final revision, then there are a few points that we will mention. These points are;
1. Reading through — Skim through the major points of the chapter, which you will find already highlighted while you were learning the chapter.
2. Reading the Notes — While reading, the points which you have made into bullets, will also come in handy, during your final pre-exam revision.
3. Testing yourself — Always remember to test yourself with the questions given in the textbook and the Test paper. That way your revision will be complete.
